At Chandlers Walk Shoppe, our staff is trained to recognize and explain many of the symptoms of the most common foot problems that are encountered. We can provide suggestions about what type of shoes or insert can help with pain or correct a specific problem dealing with the foot.
Other than comming into the store, another great way to find information about the many foot problems that exist is to go to foot.com. At this website, a more in-depth explaination of symptoms and ways to aleviate pain or discomfort can be found. To be directed to this website, simply click on the foot.com logo to the left.
Skip Chandler is the owner of Chandler's Walk Shoppe. He is a physical therapist (PT)and a certified pedorthist (CPed). He has been making custom foot supports (orthotics) for the past 25 years. His physical therapy background provides him with the biomechanical background and understanding to evaluate a wide variety of foot problems.
Custom foot supports are made from a mold of the foot. Usually a cast mold is taken while the foot is in the correct or 'neutral' position. This allows us to 'capture' the foot in the ideal postion.
We make orthotics to provide support for athletic activities, work activities, relief of metatarsal discomfort, plantar fasciitis, arthritis, and for many other applications. Orthotics can also be made for customers who may have orthopedic deformities and even amputations.
Orthotics can be made of rigid, semi-rigid or soft materials depending on the need of the customer. Some customers need firm control of foot position, others need a little control and a lot of cushioning or relief of a prominent spot on their foot.
We also can make modifications for shoes such as lifts to equalize a leg length difference, or rocker bottoms to allow for easier walking if you have a fusion of the foot. We also provide custom shoes for those in need of such.

Customers who are diabetic and are of Medicare age may qualify for financial assistance from Medicare toward the purchase of extra depth shoes and diabetic inserts. The Therapeutic Shoe Bill passed by Congress allows for this. To qualify, you must have a referral from your medical doctor, the one who treats you for your diabetes. He must certify that you are a high risk diabetic and in need of the the extra depth shoes and perhaps the diabetic inserts as well. We have several shoes in stock that meet the Medicare guidelines.
The reason for the 'extra-depth' shoes is to allow for adequate room in the toe box for an insert or orthotic (foot support), and to prevent pressure on the top of the toes. Shoes that meet this standard are 3/16" deeper than normal shoes. Medicare will pay up to $94.98, or 80% of the cost of the shoes up to that limit, toward one pair of these shoes each year. They will also pay up to $38.75/pair for the diabetic inserts, of which they will allow three pair each year.
If this service is of interest, you may contact us via email, phone, fax, or come into the store. We can then provide you with a copy of the Certifying Physician letter that you can give to your doctor to fill out. Some doctors are not aware that this benefit is available to you.
